Neil studied at University of Strathclyde. During his studies he developed a unique computer programme to determine the enforceability of exemption clauses in contracts. In addition he wrote a paper on the enforceability of product liability laws in relation to software developers.

He qualified in 1998 and was promoted to partner within a year of qualifying. Neil is a Notary Public and has practiced in Glasgow for almost 25 years, managing various departments and training in excess of eight solicitors.

Experienced in contentious financial provision disputes between partners and cohabitation claims. Particular expertise in defending the most complex crimes being instructed in hundreds of jury trials, including High Court prosecutions.

Areas of Practice

Experienced in private client work, both contentious and non-contentious, including inheritance tax, legal rights claims, prior rights claims, IHT avoidance and tax planning.

Neil is known for being a safe pair of hands. He is highly skilled in advocacy and able to think quickly on his feet analysing facts, cross examining witnesses, applying common law and legislation to the case to the benefit of his clients. During his earlier years of practice his submissions in relation to financial provision on Divorce were described by a senior Sheriff as “ingenious”.

Neil has been instructed by managing directors of multinational companies, medical doctors, chartered accountants,  premier league football players, international fashion designers, actors and fellow lawyers, in relation to various legal difficulties.

Neil’s advice is frequently sought by professional bodies and colleagues within the legal profession in relation to regulatory and other matters.

Neil strives to exceed his client’s expectations in both pre litigated and litigated work.  Results driven, he is committed to delivering the client’s desired outcome when achieving settlement. With strong negotiation and litigation skills he has appeared in procedural and evidential hearings (Proofs) throughout the Scottish Sheriff Courts and has been involved in high profile cases.

Neil currently specialises in all areas of criminal law including sexual offences, fraud, murder, assault and offences regarding the misuse of drugs. Whenever possible Neil aims to prevent a case reaching the stage of prosecution. This protects the reputation of his clients and avoids the stress Court can bring.

A keen eye for detail and meticulous planning and case preparation are key to the service delivered by Neil.
