Children's Hearings

How we can help

Solicitors for Children's Hearings

Some children may require additional support or guidance and this may be because a parent is struggling to meet their needs or the child may have committed a crime. The Children’s Hearing System aims to protect children from harm. During a Children’s Hearing, both the parent and child are entitled to legal representation as the decisions made have a huge impact on the family.

Free, no-obligation consultation

We immediately attend police stations anytime, anywhere. If your friend or relative is in custody, or you need urgent help, we are here.

If you or someone you know is invited to attend a Children’s Hearing, it is imperative to seek legal advice. Our expert solicitors at Neil Kilcoyne have extensive experience attending Children’s Hearings across Scotland. We can give advice on preparing for a hearing and can attend a hearing with you, to represent you.

When a decision has been made, a relevant person can apply to the Sheriff Court to appeal the decision. If the Sheriff is justified then they can substitute their own decision or send the case back to the Children’s Hearing to be looked at further. There are certain time limits when making such appeals, therefore it is in your best interest to seek legal advice straight away.

We also have experience in other family and child law matters, including Child Protection Orders, Compulsory Supervision Orders, and Adoption & Permanence Orders.
